Neurology Services at MidHudson Regional Hospital

Cerebrovascular & Stroke

Stroke is a leading cause of serious long-term disability in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Our team of stroke specialists encourages the community to learn more about stroke symptoms and to call 911 immediately if someone shows signs of a possible stroke. Emergency medical services can be directed to take a stroke patient to the closest awarded WMCHealth hospital for expert care, if transport is considered to be safe for the individual.

Acute stroke involves sudden neurological deficit ranging from numbness to weakness to speech impairment. In recent years, high-tech minimally invasive neurovascular surgery has emerged as a treatment for acute stroke. WMCHealth surgeons at Westchester Medical Center’s Brain and Spine Institute can deliver a catheter-based system through the arteries of the brain to remove a blood clot and reduce or eliminate symptoms. Westchester Medical Center provides 24/7 acute stroke care for patients seen in our own emergency department or transferred from other hospitals throughout the Hudson Valley. Acute stroke is considered an emergency. Call 911 at the first sign of symptoms.

Epilepsy and Functional Neuroscience

The functional and epilepsy programs at MidHudson Regional Hospital are growing with a faculty of neurologists, neurosurgeons, pain management specialists, and neuropsychologists who specialize in the treatment of movement disorders, pain syndromes and epilepsy.

In addition to a variety of strategies for medical treatment, we also offer surgical options including microvascular decompression, rhizotomy, radiosurgery, spinal cord stimulation, and intrathecal pump placement.

We have a referral relationship with Westchester Medical Center (WMC), the only certified Level 4 Epilepsy Center in the Hudson Valley that is accredited by National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC) in offering both adult and pediatric treatment. Highly skilled seizure neurologists offer leading outpatient and inpatient expertise in WMC’s advanced Epilepsy Monitoring Unit to ensure a comfortable and safe patient experience. Our neurosurgical team specializes in a variety of surgical treatments as well, including vagus nerve stimulation, robotic depth electrode placement, MRI-guided laser ablation, and neurostimulation.
