Advanced Interventional Procedures for Spine and Joint Care Services at WMCHealth

Typically, a very small percentage of our patients require surgery, as we aim to find relief for our patients through other interventional procedures first. Epidural or facet joint injections can be very effective in relieving chronic neck and back pain. In some cases, spinal cord stimulation is also an option. There are also many newer techniques that can be used to avoid or delay surgery.

Why Choose Us?

Patient satisfaction, safety and quality of life are a priority of our practice and as such we strive to achieve the highest standards in the most up-to-date patient care, research-based medicine and clinical education as well as research. Along with WMCHealth's flagship hospital Westchester Medical Center, an academic medical center, we are able to bring together a comprehensive team approach. We are always striving to increase our knowledge and understanding of pain.

Our Approach to Coping with Chronic Pain

Our team takes a patient-centered approach to pain and focuses on our patients’ needs when selecting treatment options. Each patient is treated as an individual with a customized plan for treatment and recovery through comprehensive and compassionate care.

Pain Conditions We Treat

Our pain management specialists at MidHudson Regional Hospital treat a full spectrum of chronic and acute pain conditions in both adults and children, including but not limited to the following:

  • Epidural injections
  • Joint injections
  • Peripheral nerve blocks
  • Sympathetic nerve blocks
  • Radiofrequency ablation
  • Spinal cord stimulation

Technology We Use

We provide a full range of interventional pain management therapies for chronic pain conditions.  Services provided for minimally invasive spine procedures include but are not limited to:

Epidural injections deliver medication directly into the epidural space of the spine to alleviate chronic pain caused by conditions such as herniated discs or spinal stenosis. This minimally invasive procedure can provide significant relief by reducing inflammation and blocking pain signals, promoting improved quality of life.

Joint injections deliver medication directly into affected joints to alleviate chronic pain caused by conditions like arthritis or injury. This targeted treatment may reduce inflammation and provide relief, often improving spinal mobility and enhancing overall quality of life.

Peripheral nerve blocks involve injecting medication around nerves to block pain signals, offering relief from chronic pain conditions like neuropathy or complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). This targeted approach can provide significant and long-lasting pain relief, enhancing daily functioning and improving quality of life.

Sympathetic nerve blocks involve injecting medication near the sympathetic nerves to alleviate chronic pain conditions like CRPS or neuropathic pain. By disrupting pain signals, nerve blocks offer significant relief, often restoring functionality and improving overall quality of life for patients.

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive procedure that alleviates chronic pain by targeting specific nerves with radiofrequency energy. By heating the nerves and interrupting pain signals, RFA provides long-lasting relief for conditions such as arthritis or back pain.

Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is an advanced therapy for chronic pain management. It involves implanting a small device near the spine to deliver mild electrical impulses that disrupt pain signals. SCS effectively alleviates pain from conditions like failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS) or neuropathy, offering improved comfort and mobility to those in suffering.
