Our strength in expertly caring for trauma patients lies in our dedication to serve the community and our close relationship with network members: Adult Level 1 Trauma at Westchester Medical Center and the Pediatric Trauma Center at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. Colleagues at WMCHealth continually collaborate on training, education, protocols and personnel to provide the advanced care that our community deserves.

When time is of the essence, the largest and most highly-specialized team at MidHudson Regional Hospital is at its best.  The trauma team assembles immediately upon alert, and is ready to meet the demands of our area's most critically injured patients.  With full-time, board-certified trauma surgeons on staff, we are the an experienced, ACS-verified Level II trauma center.   .

Our multidisciplinary trauma team is led by a trauma surgeon tasked with orchestrating all facets of patient care, directing everyone from pre-hospital emergency medicine technicians to all hospital-based clinical specialists.  This highly defined process ensures the trauma team is able to expertly implement the integrated care plan for the injured patient, all with the intention of reducing the risk of death and the potential for future disability associated with a traumatic injury.  From the time of patient arrival, through the admissions process, to treatment, discharge, and any outpatient care required, the trauma team is fully responsible for the care of each patient.

On April 14, 2017, MidHudson Regional Hospital passed rigorous peer review scrutiny and became the first and only Level II trauma center in the mid-Hudson Valley to be verified by the American College of Surgeons.  To earn ACS verification, a trauma center must prove its strict adherence to best practice guidelines, demonstrate efficiency of treatment, invest in the continuing education of clinicians and staff, and have an institutional commitment to excellence in trauma care.

A trauma center receiving verification from the ACS is key, as New York State now only utilizes the ACS verification program as its standard to designate trauma centers.  The ACS verification program applies a comprehensive review process that all centers interested in trauma verification must undergo for official status. No other trauma center in the Hudson Valley area has cleared this high bar to receive verified Level II status.

The trauma team at MidHudson Regional Hospital proactively works to prevent trauma via community outreach and education.

Each year area seniors are invited to a complimentary fall prevention workshop featuring  interactive stations focused on learning one’s potential risks for falls, how to optimize personal stability, how to remove hazards in the home, and other vital information.  Additionally, MidHudson Regional Hospital offers Tai Chi classes to help improve balance and reduce the risk of in-home trauma, and regularly offers bicycle helmet fittings for children and teenagers.
