Joseph J. Fulton, MD, F.A.C.S., is a nationally recognized surgeon, educator, and researcher. 

A native of Dutchess County, Dr. Fulton has spent nearly the past two decades at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the department of surgery. His surgical interests centered on complex surgical and endovascular treatment of vascular disease with emphasis on peripheral/visceral revascularization and surgical access for dialysis. He was also integrally involved with the education of medical students, residents and fellows.

An active thought and research leader in his field, Dr. Fulton has authored multiple peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters as well as served as the principal investigator in a variety of clinical trials related to vascular surgery. He is a member of multiple medical societies including the Society for Vascular Surgery and the Academy of Educators.

Dr. Fulton has also been involved in global surgical care. As faculty of the Malawi Surgical Initiative, he provides clinical and surgical care to patients in eastern sub-Sahara Africa as well as educating Malawian medical students and surgical residents.

Dr. Fulton earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Notre Dame in electrical engineering, and his medical degree at SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse. He completed his residency in surgery as well as an advanced fellowship in vascular surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
